There’s a new way for South Mountain Community College students to get e-mail.
SMCC and the entire Maricopa Community College District are now providing Google-powered email for all students.
All official college communication to students now come through these email accounts.
If you are a current student, you will use your existing college identification number (MEID) and password. That means a student who has "XXXX" as an MEID, for example, would have an email address of XXXX@maricopa.edu.
If you are a new student, you must sign up for an MEID, at which time you'll automatically be given a corresponding address in the new email system.
Google also offers access to online tools that can help with schoolwork, such as:
- Google Docs, which includes word processing, spreadsheets and presentations. Students can work on group projects on the same documents in real time. Documents are saved online, and can be accessed from any computer.
- A lifetime email address, a reliable and secure email service, and a strong anti-spam service.
- 7 GB of storage space.
- Calendar, tasks and schedule features.
- Instant messaging with voice and video.
In addition, the .edu address entitles you to educational discounts on many forms of software.
But students can start using their Google email accounts immediately, by visiting http://www.maricopa.edu/google/.
My Maricopa and Blackboard
The @maricopa.edu email account will be automatically loaded into both My Maricopa and Blackboard, beginning with the fall 2009 semester. Any student personal email address which is currently in Blackboard will be replaced with this new email address. ALL email sent via Blackboard will be sent via the student’s Maricopa email. You are responsible for communications sent to this address.
