PRIORITY 1: Diversity

GOAL: Increase & enhance access, engagement, resources and success for diverse students and communities

OBJECTIVES:

  • At least 50% of library books  purchased during FY should support diversity
  • Carry out our college mission by including our diverse communities in campus decision-making processes.
  • Challenge students to understand and accept diverse cultures, viewpoints and lifestyles
  • Incorporate diversity into curriculum, courses & programs
  • Increase the number of diverse faculty & staff across the college to reflect the community we serve
  • Increase the number of students and parents from diverse populations who will attend and learn about the financial aid process.
  • Infuse diversity awareness in all college policies & practices.

OBJECTIVES:

PRIORITY 2: Maximizing Resources

GOAL: Improve the efficiency of existing resources

OBJECTIVES:

  • Consolidate college human resource functions.
  • Give ACE students and families advice and referral
  • Maintain grounds
  • Maximize use of TLC space and TLC staff
  • Prepare campus for re-accreditation
  • Process the 5,000 items purchased, up 66% from 3 yrs. before.
  • Remodel and update aging facilities
  • Train additional staff in HR practices.  Focus to improve the control of College Capital Assets.
  • Train staff on campus facility related health issues.
  • Utilize hybrid courses for maximizing classroom usage.

GOAL: Maximize our ability to deliver effective and efficient services

OBJECTIVES:

  • An athletic specialist paired with the fitness center will maximize resources from both departments.
  • Assist ACE students with personal and academic issues.
  • Assist ACE, HOOPS, & Charter High school students to transition smoothly into SMCC's STEP program
  • Bring hardware and software that governs electronic access up to date to minimize problems and to provide security services for buildings and access.
  • Deliver effective and efficient circulation desk customer service
  • Develop community liaisons for students with disabilities..
  • Efficient Event Planning
  • Establish learning outcomes for DRS at SMCC and revise mission statement for district DRS MGR's council through series of 3 workshops
  • Explore & encourage varied orientation programs/options beyond the opening of school.
  • Improve & support college communication by funding a new phone system, voice over I.P.
  • Improve web pages for specific programs, courses and student services processes & programs.
  • Increase the number of students and parents who learn about the financial aid process by  collaborating with statewide or community events.
  • Maintain effective college receiving & delivery services
  • Maintain our continuing growth pattern and deliver effective marketing-PR services for SMCC
  • Proactively plan and support mentoring for mission critical positions that are affected by Active Retirement.
  • Provide students with better viewing of projected images.
  • Publish a quality student newspaper to increase student affiliation with SM
  • Support evening students and faculty with resources similar to daytime
  • Trainer will manage all facets of training for adminstrative systems such as the upgrade to the NSS and HRMS training.
  • Utilize hybrid courses for maximizing classroom usage
  • Work with ASU or Creative Pathways internship program to augment DRS service hours

PRIORITY 3: Opportunities for Access

GOAL: Feedback--evaluate the effectiveness of our offerings along with the expansion effectiveness of our communication to internal and external stakeholders.

OBJECTIVES:

  • Conduct annual Employer survey of organizations for which SMCC conducts on site classes
  • Evaluate course schedule template.
  • Evaluate students through focus groups, suggestion box, classroom assessment, class evaluations.

GOAL: Increase points of service at offsites

OBJECTIVES:

  • Continue to explore facility & site locations for Ahwatukee Center
  • Provide quality financial aid services to students in the outlying centers by providing staff From off site centers with annual financial aid cross training workshops and experiences.

GOAL: Increase outreach effectiveness

OBJECTIVES:

  • Create Educational Spec. for Center expansion
  • Deliver hybrid course(s) to employees at Hensley Budweiser
  • Deliver Mediation courses to the courts and High Schools
  • Expand Dual Enrollment Course Offerings at existing locations
  • Expand number of classrooms and other venues available for instructional delivery.
  • Increase funding to META Recovery Service Program.
  • Meet the diverse needs of students
  • Offer Creative Reading Class Schedules to meet the needs of the21st century students
  • Serve all populatns in Ahwa & GRIC by maintaining multiple sites, if necessary.

GOAL: Increase opportunities for students to connect to the college beyond the classroom

OBJECTIVES:

  • Make student aware of existing opportunities (professional clubs, associations, peer groups, community events, partnerships) to utilize technology.

GOAL: Increase the number of students who re-enroll in order to complete their educational goals

OBJECTIVES:

  • Ensure that high school dual enrollment students are included in SMCC  fall recruitment efforts.
  • Provide user friendly registration, advisement, & instruction. Work with student on education plan that fulfills student goals.

GOAL: Increase the number of students who successfully complete their courses

OBJECTIVES:

  • Create an open door policy. Maintain academic services for students.
  • Provide course syllabus to each student and make them aware of the Learning Assistance Center and other supportive services at the college.


PRIORITY 5: Student Learning Outcomes

GOAL: Broadly institutionalize student outcomes assessment

OBJECTIVES:

  • Assess library skills
  • Faculty will employ a method of process to collect data using direct measures to assess student learning outcomes.
  • Involve a minimum of three (3) employer classroom sites in SMCC Student Assessment activities.

GOAL: Empower students to use technology

OBJECTIVES:

  • Increase computer literacy skills of financial aid recipients as well as their personal money management skills.


PRIORITY 6: Student, Community & Staff Success 

GOAL: Maximize student achievement in academic, personal and career goals

OBJECTIVES:

  • Create student database for advisement followup & referral.Promote communication with students & staff.
  • Develop new course for MCCD for SMCC in Assistive Technology.
  • Enable students to either transfer to a four year institution or to secure employment at graduation.
  • Establish a permanent site in Ahwatukee.
  • Have students select a major and associated career.
  • Improve student learning.
  • Maintain at least the minimal level of technology currency specified by the Technology Master Plan (in keeping with HLC requirements).
  • Partner with Arizona Association for conflict resolution to host over 200 students in a peer mediation conference.
  • Provide electronic services and support necessary for student success. 

GOAL: Provide a nurturing working environment for staff professional development

OBJECTIVES:

  • Engage in adapting customer service training.
  • Maintain technology currency in staff work areas.
  • Satisfy and retain staff.

GOAL: Provide quality services in a timely manner to meet diverse community needs

OBJECTIVES:

  • Create a flexible work schedule to assure coverage to meet student educational needs.
  • Offer a variety of times, locations and classes.

GOAL: Support students to achieve personal, academic and/or career success

  • Assist students in obtaining financial aid for university transfer.
  • Continue to provide payment options for students.
  • Create a positive environment in the athletics department.
  • Create an SMCC tracking sys to monitor studt progress thru the enrollment process
  • Development of an advisement model in coordination with department chairs, faculty and staff.
  • Ensure compliance with ADA standards for accomodations, access & services for disabled students & staff.
  • Facilitate connection between CC faculty & dual enrollment HS faculty to keep curriculum current.
